Behaviour Interactive and Devolver Digital put Serious Sam: Shatterverse on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Microsoft Store on 31 August 2026. One to five players. A co-op roguelite first-person shooter. Croteam’s series, a different studio, Monday’s cart.

Steam lists app 2067210 as a co-op roguelite FPS for one to five players. Xbox lists online co-op for two to five, a single-player path, Xbox Play Anywhere, and a build optimised for Series X|S. Wikipedia adds Xbox Cloud Gaming. Gematsu, on 7 August, named Steam and the Microsoft Store with the consoles. 31 August is the shared date.

The announcement was 26 March 2026, during an Xbox Partner Preview, in the twenty-fifth year of Serious Sam. Engadget, IGN, Eurogamer, Pure Xbox, Game Informer, and PC Gamer filed the same morning. Producer Nic Duchesne said Behaviour wanted an original approach while upholding the series’ legacy. Croteam, which made the first games, gave a blessing. Devolver Digital publishes. Behaviour Interactive develops. Those names are on the box.

Serious Sam: The First Encounter shipped on 21 March 2001. Croteam built it. Gathering of Developers published it. The grammar was a wide arena, a large gun, and a crowd that did not wait its turn. Twenty-five years later the cart is a roguelite. Death is a restart. Boons stack. Run modifiers rewrite the rules. Steam’s own copy says: fall fast, come back louder. That is a shop sentence, not a review score.

The enemy named on the stores is Uber Mental. The walls between universes are fractured. Sams from more than one dimension are told to work together. The player is part of the Serious Program, a force set against Uber Mental. Mental has already won in many timelines. Advancement, both Steam and Xbox print, means bringing down five lieutenants, each a boss. Five lieutenants is a number. Five Sams is the other number. Gematsu’s 7 August headline was “Five Sams. One game.”

The arsenal is described as a mix of series staples and new toys. Arenas are hand-crafted. Runs are procedurally shifting. Classic enemies return with new ones. Anomalies, hidden portals, and high-risk chances can supercharge a run or end it. Xbox’s store adds a lot of backpedaling and one-liners when everything is on fire. Those are the publisher’s words. This desk is not inventing a frame rate from a living room that has not been metered on Monday morning.

Xbox capabilities, as printed: online co-op for two to five, single player, Xbox cross-platform co-op, Series X|S optimisation, achievements, Play Anywhere. Steam’s about-this-game block is the same plot as Xbox’s. Twelve languages on both storefronts: English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Ukrainian. Interface and subtitles. Mature content, in the developers’ own description, is frequent violence, blood and gore in a stylised setting, with some crude language.

Steam’s minimum machine is Windows 10, 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, 8 GB of memory, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 560X, DirectX 12, and 10 GB of storage, for a low-quality 1080p picture at 30 frames. Recommended is Windows 11, an Intel Core i7-11800H or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB of memory, a GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 7600, for a high-quality 1080p picture at 60 frames. 10 GB is the listed install. Those are store numbers. They are not a bench from this paper.

John Dick, who voiced Sam in earlier games, returned for Shatterverse. Wikipedia records that. The voice is a through-line. The studio is not. Behaviour Interactive is the Dead by Daylight room. KitGuru, at announcement, noted that Shatterverse looks nothing like that earlier work: a first-person shooter, a lower, older aesthetic, closer to the early Serious Sam discs. Devolver is the publisher that puts strange, finished objects on a store and lets them be loud. Monday is a ship day.

This desk will not invent a price. Third-party key shops print numbers. Behaviour and Devolver have not put a list price in the Steam widget this filing can stand on. Xbox’s product page, fetched 31 August, does not print a dollar figure in the public description. A launch without a quoted list is still a launch. The date is 31 August 2026. The machines are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, a Windows box via Steam, and a Windows box via the Microsoft Store. Cloud is named on Wikipedia. Play Anywhere is named on Xbox.

A roguelite is a different object from The First Encounter. In 2001 you walked into a canyon and the canyon stayed. In 2026 a run is a hand-crafted arena whose modifiers can change the night. Permanent upgrades expand later runs. That is the genre Steam printed. It is not a campaign you finish once and put on a shelf unless you choose to. It is a Monday that wants a second Monday. Co-op for five is a living-room census. One pad is legal. Five pads are the design the stores describe.

Croteam remains the origin. Behaviour is the builder. Devolver is the shop. Nic Duchesne is the named producer. John Dick is the named voice. Uber Mental is the named antagonist. Five lieutenants are the named bosses. 26 March is the named announcement. 7 August is the named date lock. 31 August is the street. Twenty-five years after 21 March 2001, the series has a new cart that is also a new grammar. The pyramid on this page is not a screenshot. It is a night still of Giza, because the old games taught a generation that a first-person shooter could be a desert with a very large magazine. The new game is a shatter of that desert. The still is the heritage. The cart is Monday.

A household that already owns a PlayStation 5 can put the disc or the download on the same machine that holds other nights. A household that already owns an Xbox Series machine gets Play Anywhere and, if Wikipedia is right, a cloud path. A household that already owns a Windows box gets Steam or the Microsoft Store. Cross-platform co-op is printed on Xbox. That is the cable between rooms. This paper likes a second controller on a table. Five is an ambitious table. One is still a legal night.

This is not a scored review. Monday morning is too early for a scoreboard, and a roguelite’s first hour is not a campaign’s last door. The news is a dated object. Behaviour Interactive. Devolver Digital. Croteam’s blessing. Nic Duchesne. John Dick. One to five players. Five lieutenants. Steam app 2067210. Xbox product 9NT48KC097VV. 10 GB. 31 August 2026. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Microsoft Store. Xbox Cloud Gaming on the encyclopaedia line. Play Anywhere on the Xbox line. Fall fast. Come back louder. That is the list that shipped.

The living-room test is the old Serious Sam test, rewritten: can a crowd still be a joke you survive with a friend on the other cushion. The stores say yes, up to five. The series said yes, in 2001, with one body in a canyon. Monday is the rewrite. File it on the games tab. Leave the pictures to Pixie. The still is a pyramid at night and a black pad on a desk. The cart is five Sams and five lieutenants, dated 31 August.
