GlobeNewswire carried the company release at 7:00 a.m. Markets Insider reprinted it. The Oak Ridger posted at 1:22 p.m. Eastern the same day. Construction Briefing, on 25 August, named Clark moving into the next stage.

24 August is the date on the release. Sunday 30 August is the print date, six days later. The plant is TX-1. The town is Oak Ridge. The contractor is Clark Construction Group. The floor plate is 19,900 square metres. The annual line, once the plant is operational, is 700,000 TRISO-X pebbles, or 5 tonnes of uranium. That is enough fuel for up to 11 Xe-100 reactors. TRISO-X LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of X-Energy, Inc., listed as Nasdaq: XE. The next phase is auxiliary buildings, interior buildout, and equipment installation. Vertical construction is nearing completion. That is the sentence the company put on the wire on 24 August.

Clark Construction Group continues as contractor. Construction Briefing named the firm on 25 August. The work is the interior build-out of the 19,900-square-metre process equipment and administration building, the installation of fuel fabrication equipment, and the adjacent graphite matrix powder building. 19,900 square metres is the building. Graphite matrix powder is the neighbouring shed. Clark is still on the job.

Once operational, TX-1 is rated at 700,000 TRISO-X pebbles a year. That is 5 tonnes of uranium, written 5 MTU on the company’s table. Enough fuel for up to 11 Xe-100 reactors. Xe-100 is a high-temperature gas-cooled small modular reactor. The fuel is TRISO-X particle fuel. Pebbles are the product. Eleven reactors is the upper bound the company printed. It is not raised here.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a 40-year Special Nuclear Material License. It is the first-ever NRC Category 2 nuclear fuel facility license to process HALEU. TX-1 is expected to be the first new commercial-scale US nuclear fuel fabrication facility in more than 50 years. It is the first US commercial facility dedicated to fabricating TRISO fuel for advanced reactors. Four claims. All four are TRISO-X’s. 40 years is the licence. Category 2 is the class. HALEU is the material. Half a century is the gap Duling named.

The plant supports X-energy’s first proposed Xe-100 deployment with Dow through the Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. The site is Dow Inc.’s UCC Seadrift Operations on the Texas Gulf Coast. In recent weeks TRISO-X extended a CRADA with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, acquired an additional 28.3 hectares to expand the Horizon Center campus, and received a Tennessee economic development grant for fuel-manufacturing expansion. Three items, same campus. 28.3 hectares is the extra land. The CRADA is with the national lab that shares the town. The grant is Tennessee’s.

A second plant is on the company’s map: the Cascade Advanced Energy Facility with Energy Northwest, in collaboration with Amazon. That sits inside a strategy with Amazon to bring up to more than 5 gigawatts of new power projects online by 2039. 5 GW is the upper figure. 2039 is the year. Cascade is the second name. Energy Northwest is the utility. Amazon is the offtaker named on the release. TX-1 is still the Oak Ridge file. Cascade is the second plant, not this one.

What the 24 August release is not is as useful as what it is. It is not a first-pebble date. It is not a dollar figure for the interior fit-out. It is not a headcount. It is not a photograph of a living face. It is a next-phase notice: auxiliary buildings, interiors, equipment. Vertical work is nearly done. Clark stays. 19,900 square metres. 700,000 pebbles. 5 MTU.
